Hi Folks!
Quick meta update here! After the Great Unplanned Extended Hiatus over the last 18 months, it is time for an update on the status of MonoTown.
Difficulty Rebooting
I’ve been trying to reboot the channel and get back to building for almost a year, but I was running into a bunch of challenges.
One thing that never stopped during the Extended Hiatus was the constant accumulation of LEGO bricks. Some of you may remember me (accidentally) purchasing a pallet of LEGO in 2020. Well, I also bought an entire Bricklink store that was going out of business in 2022, and many more sets. This meant the LEGO room became very unpleasant to work from as unsorted bricks and sets piled up and we began to run out of storage options. Maybe we had too much LEGO?
Too Much LEGO?
Never! We decided to expand the very borders of MonoTown! I wanted a space that could accommodate the city itself, a dedicated building area, and I wanted some space to pursue other projects such as stop motion brick films and builds that require space but aren’t a permanent part of the city.
I began looking for additional space in a dedicated studio, and I had no idea it would take more than a year. It was a very frustrating experience! Edinburgh, Scotland, where I’m located, has a dearth of affordable living and working spaces, and it is one of the toughest property markets in the world.
Launching a New MonoTown HQ
However, despite the challenges, I’m very excited to announce that we recently got the keys to the workspace. As we hoped, it is divided into a space for the city, a dedicated build room, and a studio room. There is also significant storage space. It’s not huge, but it will more than suffice.
MonoTown HQ will (hopefully) come online at some point in September/October. This isn’t a small project, but we’re going to document as much of the process as possible. Stay tuned via TikTok, Instagram, and this blog!
Thanks To You!
An unexpected surprise over the last few years has been the small community that formed around MonoTown – some of you I know in Real Life, but many of you I’ve never met face to face. Folks have contributed story ideas, build ideas, their own creations, characters, character voices, technical and moderation support, and it’s been a lot of fun knowing that the story of MonoTown isn’t just mine. Many of you have checked in over the last couple years, and that’s been much appreciated.
Thanks and see you all soon!
